Egyptian Om Ali

Ingredients

  • 4 large croissant

  • 4 cups milk

  • 2 cups chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios)

  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup raisins (soaked in water for 40 minutes)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat an oven to 200 degrees C.

  2. Place croissants in the oven for 10 minutes for crunchiness.

  3. In a medium saucepan, over medium-high heat, stir together the milk and sugar, until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract.

  4. In an oven safe medium round baking dish/pan, cut croissant in medium-large pieces and arrange in a first layer in the pan.

  5. Place flakes, nuts, all purpose flour, sugar, butter, baking soda, and honey in a large mixing bowl and them mix it.

  6. Sprinkle the nuts, raisins (drained from water), shredded coconut, over the first layer. Then cover with a second layer of croissant pieces.

  7. Pour the boiling milk mixture over this mixture (making sure that all the surface gets soaked with milk)

  8. Combine 2 tbsp powdered sugar with the heavy whipping cream and cover the top with a thick layer of this cream.

  9. Dust 1 tbsp powdered sugar on top.

  10. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
